Shirin holds a B.Sc. in Bacteriology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from the University of Edinburgh. She conducted postdoctoral research at the Hellenic Pasteur Institute in Athens and at King's College London. She then worked in the pharmaceutical industry in Denmark and Belgium as a publication manager, scientific advisor, medical information content manager, and independent medical reviewer. Shirin is now an independent consultant based in France. Her favorite plants to eat are pistachios and olives.
